Kirkland House is situated in the small village of Clachan, just south of Tarbert halfway down the west side of the Kintyre Peninsula.

This spectacularly beautiful part of the West Coast offers holiday-makers with a huge variety of activities – all within half an hour's drive of Clachan. We have identified a number of activities to suit all tastes below and we will be adding to this as our guests unearth new things to do when they are staying at Kirkland.

 

 
EAT GREAT SEAFOOD AT HOME

Great meat and amazingly fresh seafood is available almost on your doorstep. Ormsary Farm provides a full range of locally produced Beef, Lamb and Venison. Lobster, Crabs and Scallops the size of a Yoyo are all available straight from the sea at Prentice on the pier. Full details are available in the welcome pack and we can email this to you before your visit.

 
 
EAT OUT AT THE KILBERRY INN

Just the other side of West Loch Tarbert hides a gastronomic gem of a restaurant - The Kilberry Inn - great for adults or a special occasion. View Kilberry Inn Website
Alternatively, pop over to the eastern shore of Kintyre to Skipness and sample the delights of the Seafood Cabin and walk round SKipness Castle - great for children

BUY SOME LOCAL ART

The house is conveniently situated for ferries to Arran (from Cloanaig), Islay and Jura (from Kennacraig) and Gigha (from Tayinloan), providing access to countless distilleries, golf courses and beaches - you will never be short of things to do!

If you love golf, you will love the challenging fairways of this classic links course at the southern end of Kintyre.
If you are like me, you will struggle to get across the 200 yd beach on the first hole, and everything else will seem easy after that! Other courses in  Tarbert, on Gigha, on Arran and Islay - all within easy reach from Clachan.

 

 
 
WALK THE KINTYRE WAY

The Kintyre Way zig-zags its way down the Kintyre Peninsula. Take it in easy stages and it will not seem so far! We also have details of eight easy walks to take on the Kintyre peninsula.

EAT LOCALLY CAUGHT FRESH SEAFOOD

There is nothing like the mouthwatering taste of seafood, fresh from the sea.
We can suggets the best fish shops roundabout or you can meet the fishing boats at the pier in Tarbert and buy direct from the fisherman. How fresh can you get?

 
 
DRINK SOME OF THE LOCAL WHISKY

Islay Malt is one of the most famous of the Single Malts that you can drink. The proximity to Islay by ferry from Kennacraig (about 10 minutes up the road) and a short distance to the Caol Ila Distillery at the other end makes a day trip a very pleasant possibility. Clachan is also well positioned to reach the distilleries that form part of the Whisky Coast.
